Background
The Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental science (FAES) at the University of Burao, Somaliland is entrusted with the responsibility of imparting quality education, conducting research, and fostering community engagement and services in the fields of Agriculture and Environmental science. The FAES is composed of two departments with two curriculum programs: the Department of Agriculture, established in 2006, and the Department of Environment, established in 2020. Each department has its own curriculum program that responding to the community needs and market labour.

Mission
is to provide highly competent human resources and agri-innovative products, services, and sustainable solutions that address the challenges of food insecurity, poverty, and climate change in the Horn of Africa.

FAES Specific Objectives
- Develop interdisciplinary, problem-based academic program aligned with Horn of Africa’s development needs.
- Ensure students have the leadership, entrepreneurship and management skills related agriculture needed to create employment.
- Prepare students for service to their communities and country through applied service-learning program nationally and internationally
- Create applied, evidence-driven, research initiatives focused on problem solving, aligned with Somalia’s development needs.
- Develop continuous education programs for upgrading skills and knowledge.
- Capacity building of farmers and extension agents and relevant institutions through research and trainings and agriculture extension models.
